A prize for healthy living!  I offered to make a quilt for the winner of a 9 week Health & Wellness challenge at  work.

Each participant was to choose one activity that would make the biggest difference to their overall heath and wellness. Weekly points were award: 1 for meeting average existing level, 2 points for a stretch and 3 points for doubling the base measurement.

The winner chose eating more vegetables as her measure and won by eating salads for lunch everyday for 9 weeks!

I wanted a salad theme design for the quilt. When I found the Chopped Block by Missouri Star Quilt Company I knew I had a winner. To me it symbolized the process of salad making and involved sewing blocks to chop, one of my favourite types of quilts.  I used a fat quarter collection I had in my collection and voila! A fun, colorful and easy to sew quilt!

The top went together quickly. However when I started to free motion quilt I hit a roadblock. I kept getting toe catchers and broken threads so I gave up and switched to a line design.  I purposely tried to not have the lines overly straight or even, hopefully the winner of this quilt can handle the irregularities!

My husband is sad this one isn’t staying as he says it is one of his favourites to date. I think the fact it is in the same colors as his favourite sports team may be a factor.
