Looking for suggestions for fabric and supplies to make your carrier? Here is a list of suggested sources where I have made purchases.

One Stop Shopping

DIY Babywearing Supplies carries woven wrap fabric, buckles, foam sling rings and more with affordable shipping to the U.S. and Canada.

AllieLaneinAbbyville on Etsy sells kits for foam and buckles.

Fabric

It is important to use fabric of a heavy enough weight and weight tested straps and buckles.  My patterns include measurements for use of woven babywearing wraps, but if you are looking for purchased material, here are a few places to look.

Mahogany brand tablecloths are a favorite for babycarriers and ring slings.  The patterns mimic those found on purchased carriers. 9 oz. Organic Cotton Duck Ice Blue Fabric By The Yard” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>Cotton duck and colorful denims are generally the recommended 9oz weight.

Woven wrap material is available by the meter from Colimacon & Cie.

Webbing and buckles

For webbing and buckles, check out www.strapworks.com and www.jtsoutdoorfabrics.com for  heavyweight polypropylenestrap adjusters, and side release buckles.

Foam

High quality foam will make a big difference to comfort of a carrier when used in shoulder straps.  It is worth making sure you buy high quality by looking for foam with a compression of 33lbs or more. I source foam from a local upholstery store, but this foam is similar or this foam if you are in Canada.

Sling rings

For aluminum rings to make ring slings, check out www.slingrings.com and www.slingrings.ca.
